Cuisine: Italian

Unlike the name might lead you to think, Govinda actually sells Italian cuisine not Indian. It is however, frequented mostly by the Indian community. At first the menu might seem a little uninspiring but if you ask them they actually veganise many of their dishes which, for some strange reason, is not advertised in the menu.

For a start all the pizzas which are offered with cheese can actually be made with vegan cheese. Although the pizzas are otherwise average, the vegan cheese on top make it a real novelty since this is quite a new thing to be offered in Bangkok restaurants. We certainly can’t find this in Chiang Mai. At one time, this was the only restaurant in Bangkok that offered a vegan cheese pizza. Now, we understand there are a couple of others that also do, although they are not exclusively vegetarian. I have heard people say that the others are better than the ones sold here.

We believe there are other veganised dishes as well but we have never inquired past the pizza! They also offer a vegan carrot cake as well as a raspberry sorbet but these are average compared to the other vegan desserts you can get within close proximity. They also do a lot of soy meat dishes.

This restaurant is well worth a visit for the vegan cheese pizzas alone but we aware it’s an upscale place so prices are fairly high and there is a ten percent service charge. It is only open at lunchtimes and in the evenings and it gets very busy quickly so go as early as you can if you don’t like crowds or you don’t want to wait. It’s a cute place with outside seating. You’ll get complimentary bread and oils with your food.
