We Love Green – Vegan and Vegetarian Cooking School

As you are probably aware there are lots of restaurants in Chiang Mai that offer vegan and vegetarian cooking courses. At the time of writing, to the best of our knowledge, there is only one that is independent from a restaurant, which is We Love Green. This school opened just a few months ago and is located just south of the city in Nong Phueng, close to 89 Plaza Nong Hoi.

I took a morning course at We Love Green in March 2019. I was extremely impressed with the class. The set-up and equipment is all very professional. They have a number of cooking stations. They offer classes of varying lengths on different days, check out the schedule on their website. If you are staying in town they will include a free pick up and drop off at your guest house or hotel!

The Set Up

The trainer, Somjai, is a very welcoming and friendly lady. She is also an excellent teacher. She is very knowledgeable about Thai food, the ingredients of every dish and how to make them. She explains everything in excellent English and she is clear, patient, approachable and easy to understand. She will demonstrate each step and she will have you go through all the steps yourself as well.

We started the morning off with making chilli paste and curry pastes. We also then made dtom yum soup for breakfast. Then we made several more dishes and ate a big lunch consisting of them all. This included green curry, massaman curry, red curry and pad Thai! Go hungry as you will make a lot of food! There will be too much for you to eat but you have the option to either take it home or they will donate the food to the homeless.

The final stage of the morning was to make fresh spring rolls, somtam and then mango sticky rice. Every meal we made was absolutely delicious and I was so excited to try everything we made at We Love Green again when I’m at home. You will get a free booklet to take home with you which lists the ingredients and cooking process for every dish that you make so there is no need to try to remember everything.

Lots of people look for vegan cooking classes when they come to Chiang Mai. Look no further than We Love Green!
