Although this is a local, Thai style restaurant it is actually open until quite late which is unusual as the others usually close in the afternoon. Also, they don’t have a buffet so everything is made fresh to order and they have an extensive menu. Despite these two factors the prices are the same as the other regular local places so it’s extremely cheap. They have the menus up on posters around the restaurants and you can pick from a host of things that include about five different types of somtam (spicy papaya salad.) You won’t find the normal red and green curries here but a lot of rice and noodle dishes and fake meats.

They have a lot of Thai customers and the dishes are served spicy, be sure to warn them if you don’t like that. A fair amount of their trade will come foreign customers as well, due to its central location in a popular area. It’s not surprising that people like it as the dishes do taste great and the prices are unbeatable. As well as food they have tea based drinks, soy cereal drinks and other snacks available.

Although Jay May Jam Jay is advertised and is known as a vegan restaurant, some reports have been made that this is not strictly true. Although there is no dairy or eggs served in the dishes some people have noted that the noodles used are made with a small amount of egg white. The fake meats may have the same problem. Just avoid the fake meats or noodle dishes and you can trust that it will be vegan. They also recently started doing pizzas with either vegan cheese or normal cheese.

It’s a shame they’re not fully vegan but it’s a great place to go for a quick, cheap bite of authentic Thai food.

Update 2019: In the summer of 2019 a second branch of this store opened up in Central Festival Food Park. It is a small stall with a smaller version of the same menu. Dishes appear to be all vegan, check. You will need to buy tokens first to purchase your food, and then either eat in the shared eating area or take-away (bring your own containers as they will use a lot of plastic.) Food tastes the same and the prices are the same so you can guarantee both of these are reasonable. Also open late as it’s almost as late as the shopping mall.
