Phloen Ruedee is an area of the night market on Chang Khlan Road. It’s an open space with stacks of hay to sit on in the middle and they also have food and drink outlets going all around it. These are all pretty much street carts type style with shared seating areas.

Among them all, in the right hand corner you will find this little gem. Although it’s a tiny space that they operate out of they actually manage to prepare everything there right in front of you. You can sit outside in their seating area or move to anywhere in this market that you like.

They have a menu that changes every day with various interesting dishes. This isn’t your usual typical Thai dishes. They have things like the Burmese Tea Leaf Salad, sauteed cauliflower, potato croquettes or tofu and banana fritters. Some creativity has gone in to designing their menus. For such a simple place we really appreciate the unique dishes. We also appreciate that they have dishes with tempeh which is a bit of a rare thing to find these days. You can choose one, two, three or four dishes as a set for a particular price. For example, three dishes are 130 BAHT. The dishes are quite small but work out at good value in a set. It’s nice that you can choose how many depending on your level of hunger. They also have cold tea to drink for free!

My favourite feature of this restaurant has to be the fact that they have almost zero waste. Everything is served inside food, for example a cabbage leaf. Even the condiments such as the chili sauce is served in a scooped out chunk of cucumber. We love it. I know of no other restaurant in Chiang Mai that can possibly have as little waste as this one. Environment awareness should be important to all vegan restaurants!

Although this restaurant is called Vegetarian, they use no dairy, eggs or honey at all so it’s actually completely vegan.
